Thank you so much to all the ELC students and 7th grade volunteers that participated in our ELC Book Swap!

Thank you so much to all the ELC students and 7th grade volunteers that
participated in our ELC Book Swap today! It was a huge success. We
started out with over 250 books. Each and every ELC student chose three
books to take home. They had fun 'shopping' for their books with the
help of our 7th grade volunteers. All leftover books were placed in our
ELC Little Library. ELC teachers--feel free to shop the ELC Little
Library for new books to use in your classrooms
Our 7th graders did
a great job talking to the ELC students about reading: who, what,
when, where and why.
Some highlights of their presentations:
- have your older brothers and sisters read to you
- have
books out and about in your home--not just put away on the shelf; keep a
book basket on the floor in your living room to remind you to read;
change out the books every month
- keep books in the car so you have something to read when you're running errands with your parents
- take books to your older siblings sporting events so you can read while you wait for the game to start
- go to the library and check out books so you always have something new to read--for free!
- if you read 3 books a day, in a year's time you will have read over 1,000 books!

A
special thanks to Skyler for all her help and support with our ELC Book
Swap, and for allowing us to hold it in the Library. Here are a bunch
of photos from today's ELC Book Swap. Feel free to share them with your
ELC parents.
